In mid-2020, Solar Pile International (SPI) completed supply of its patented Solar X Wing Pile (SXWP) for solar arrays at the 100MW Wapello Solar Farm in Iowa, USA.

By utilizing the SXWP over standard beams, SPI were able to save over 300,000 pounds of galvanised steel due to the reduced length of the pile.

The SXWP’s unique design compresses and mobilises the surrounding soil during and after installation. This allows the pile to generate high uplift and lateral capacities at much shallower depths when compared to traditional H-Beam foundations.

The SXWP proved to be an effective and economical solution for this weak soil site to achieve the required loads for wind and frost heave forces.
